I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 12 months ago and at this time I was very reluctant to go on any more medication. I was already taking tablets for blood pressure and cholesterol and did not want to add anymore to my list. I came to see Dr. Eva three months later to see how she could help. The doctor did say that if I did change my lifestyle and lose weight, my health would benefit greatly from it.

Dr. Eva actually looked after a brother of mine 10 years ago. He had type 2 diabetes and she helped him to reversed it. After seeing his results, I thought I had nothing to lose so I made an appointment in Eva's clinic.

Through lifestyle changes I have made myself, I did manage to lose a little weight however, I seemed to hit a plateau. When I started working with Dr. Eva, we sat down and went through all the food I like and all the food I don’t.

I didn't realise it at the time but it is all about educating ourselves, and getting to know the right type of food to eat. You don’t have to starve yourself, you can still eat.

That’s what I got and very quickly, within 2 weeks, my glucose levels came down to normal, the last test I got done which I think is the Hbc1a1 is 32 and it was 52. And I just find now that I have more energy, I am much more positive. It is great for the head, it is great for the body. I am going to the shop now and I can buy clothes now, off the hock, which is fantastic.

I was a 3 or 4 XL and buying stuff just because it fits you, not because of what it looks like, just because it fits you, and that changes you mindset you know. So that’s where I am now, I tell you I have lost, well I started on 124kg, I lost 30kg so I am down to 94kg. They still want to get me down a couple of kg’s, but I am kind of happy where I am you know. I never thought I would get this far. Sleep is great, fantastic really because my mindset is better, I don’t have to worry about the type 2 diabetes.

I do understand that I have to keep this lifestyle because if you slip back again you can go back into the old mode again which is not moving forward, it is a life changing thing but it is just, you feel so much better in yourself. Certain products helped me but I have come back down to a lot of normal food.

I eat an awful lot of more vegetables now, I eat loads of vegetables above the ground, loads of stuff like that and this is what it has taught me, about the right stuff to eat. I am not doing bags of chips anymore, bars of chocolates and stuff like that, you know but there are certain things you can have, you can treat yourself now and then, things are allowed you just have watch it and keep an eye on it that’s all. It is a battle but you kind of get into the lifestyle and I don’t want to go back to where I was and that’s the thing that worries me, to slip.

I kind of watch my weight, it goes up and down and little and I try exercise as much as I can. I normally walk an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening, sometimes na hour and a half in the evening. I try do 2-3 hours of exercise a day to keep it up and the thing is I have the energy now to do it, you not just sitting there, you have the energy and you want to do it. So that’s where I am.
